Spring and Purification

In Spring, our whole body goes through a great renewal process, even if we don't realize it, and it is therefore important to help it in this process and not accumulate new toxins.

The practices of Yoga and Ayurveda can, in this delicate transition phase, be of great help and better modulate our change.

There are particular practices dedicated to purification and specific breathing techniques that can be advised by an expert Yoga teacher so that everyone can find the best practice.

In general, it is good to intensify physical activity during this period, precisely to give the body the opportunity to reactivate itself and not fall prey to tiredness, depression and winter accumulations.

The ideal would be to be able to practice Yoga in the open air in direct contact with Nature.

It is important to follow a correct daily hygiene routine, for example the morning washing of the nasal cavities (Jāla Neti) is particularly useful in this period as it removes all the accumulations of phlegm and mucus which, as we know, tend to increase in spring.

The daily cleaning of the tongue, in addition to removing the accumulated patina (loaded with toxins), gives us precise indications on the purification work that the liver is carrying out, visible from the fact that the patina this season could change color, temporarily becoming a little more dark.

Furthermore, the skin in this period tends to dehydrate as it has to adapt to the change in temperature and humidity, and it is therefore important every day (unless specific indications and conditions) to carry out an accurate morning oiling through the practice of self-massage of the whole body.

After having well massaged each part with hot oil (even simple sesame oil) it is necessary to take a hot shower to remove both the residual greasiness and the toxins that have surfaced following the stimulation of the massage.

This simple daily action (but performed consistently) regulates the right hydration, the skin remains soft and well nourished without the need to apply other oils or creams during the day.

Particular attention should be paid to nutrition, in this period our gastric fire, Agni, is a bit of a dancer, therefore it is better to prefer light and easily digestible foods, using the flavors that Nature offers us in this period of the year, for example the bitter taste of many seasonal herbs and vegetables.
