A TYPICAL YOGA RETREAT DAY…
There will be a morning and an evening practice each day. Following the rhythm of the day, the morning sessions are invigorating, transformative and cleansing for the mind and body, and the evening practice, more lunar and nurturing, incorporates meditation, yoga nidra and relaxation. Two half days or one full day off mid week to explore the beautiful markets and sightseeing.

Mornings generally at 7:30am we will have a chai tea and fruit before yoga at 8am and brunch after practice. On the excursion days we will change meal schedules to enable free time. Usually we end up having the same all week to free up time, ie light snack before practice, brunch after practice and then dinner after the evening practice. On some days we have an earlier afternoon practice to allow to a swim and sunset gazing before dinner.

Come a day early early or leave late to spend an extra day exploring other parts of India or beautiful South Goa and its unspoiled beaches.

magical mother India …

Give yourself a chance to relax. Our ‘Yoga Holiday in Goa’ is hosted at an amazing space located on the beautiful and unspoilt Mandrem Beach in the very north of Goa. Set amidst abundant, tropical flora and fauna, it has been designed as a deeply nurturing space where you can relax your body, calm your mind, and awaken to your inner peace of being.

Cuisine

I firmly believe that your yoga practice should be supported by delicious and wholesome food. I believe that nutrition plays a vital role in our overall health, happiness and wellbeing.  What is often overlooked, however, is that nutrition is not just about what you eat, but also when you eat, and your mental, emotional and physical state at the time of eating.

A wholesome, balanced diet

Our food is fresh, and wherever possible, organic. We also source our produce locally, and according to the seasons. We begin our nightly ‘fast’ by not eating late in the evening, and ‘break’ it around 14 hrs later, at 10am. Consuming food whilst our prana levels are high (avoiding late night or early morning), and eating a wholesome, balanced diet that is rich in nutrients, whilst feeling calm and happy, nurtures us physically, emotionally and mentally.

Live-enhancing fuel for the body and mind

My goal is to bring more awareness to the importance of good nutrition, together with the other pillars of optimal wellbeing that we practice at Ashiyana Goa  – loving relationships, exercise, sleep, calmness of mind and a sense of purpose.

travel

There are many flight options to Goa either on direct charters or more flexible scheduled flights via Mumbai or Delhi. It’s a good idea to book flights sooner rather than later to take advantage of cheaper seats.

Thomas Cook operate regular Charters from the UK direct to Goa’s new Dabolim Airport.

If getting a schedule flight I recommend Air India or one of the airlines that transits in the Middle East rather than India as you can get your bags checked straight through to Goa.  Occasionally when delayed people have found they have missed their connection as they did not have enough time to get baggage in Mumbai and recheck it in to Goa.  Good place to search for flights here https://www.skyscanner.net

Mandrem is approx 1.5 hours  by taxi from the airport. Pickup (30€ each way) is advisable and can be arranged through Ashiyana.

UK citizens and many other nationalities require an evisa,  which can be obtained online here

things to see and do

Mandrem Beach, North Goa

Ashiyana Yoga Retreat  is located just behind the beautiful and unspoilt Mandrem Beach, which is one of North Goa’s quieter stretches.

Most of the accommodation, yoga shalas and restaurant are set a little in from the beach behind a lovely palm tree lined inlet.  A little wooden bridge takes you over this inlet to the beach huts and then onto the beach

About a 30 minute walk along the beach to the north of Mandrem is Arambol, the original Goan hippy hangout and now a busy beach area with bars and live music for those who might like a night out.  A similar walk to the south if Ashvem a very trendy beach with the well known La Plague restaurant and where Jade Jagger has her beach shop.
